HVAC Controls Technician

Building Automation / Controls | Livonia, MI

Job Summary

Under general supervision, conducts preventive maintenance, repair, installation, and commissioning and general servicing of systems (including detailed troubleshooting of systems). Responsible for high levels of customer satisfaction through direct, on site, customer interface.  Properly completes required project and service documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair electronic control system malfunction’s requiring extensive knowledge of a variety of electronic or digital controls systems and ability to test and write modifications in multiple languages of systems software. Tridium, JCI, and Distech a plus.
  • Communicates with customer upon arrival and before leaving the work site.
  • Ensures high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Meets regularly with customer to become familiar with operating problems.
  • Keeps customer informed on the nature of service provided outstanding issues and recommends system enhancements, upgrades, and or repairs.
  • Promotes the sale of add-on work.
  • Manages assigned work to meet professional execution, of time and customer satisfaction. Reports problems or changes to management immediately.
  • Interface and work within a team environment.
  • Work with HVAC service mechanics on building automation systems.
  • Provides support to the mechanical staff on non-complex, non-critical equipment.
  • Conducts extensive self study (reading, research and practice) to improve and maintain technical proficiency in company’s product lines.
  • Completes certifications as required by the company.
  • Perform retrofit and design build installations Perform the commissioning and servicing of building controls and facilities management systems as assigned.

Requirements

  • Two or more years experience in servicing electronic and/or mechanical systems in the HVAC industry preferred. Vocational Schooling or Associates Degree preferred.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • PC experience required and the ability to program HVAC related software.
  • Experience with Tridium, Distech, and JCI systems preferred.

HVAC Service Sales

Job Summary

Assist in the design, application and sales of HVAC solutions for commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings. Responsible for developing and maintaining long-term relationships and customer retention.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies potential opportunities with new and existing customers,
  • Gathers and validates preliminary information and performs facility walkthrough, plan review, etc,
  • Responsible for take-off, selection, systems integration, controls, support services, and pricing
  • Responsible for the preparation and review of the proposal.
  • Validates the preliminary proposal with the customer.
  • Determines proposal price and selling strategy.
  • Presents the PM agreement, repair / replacement proposal, and effectively negotiate price, terms, and conditions with the customer.
  • Follows up with buying influences.
  • Manages project change orders.
  • Provides total account business activity reports and annual forecasts,
  • Provides knowledge and consultation to customers for solutions and financial performance,
  • Participates in development and execution of W.J.O’Neil Company’s business plan and operating budget,
  • Works with and supports Sales, Operations, and Department Leads to develop, implement, and measure policies and procedures required to obtain the results expected by WJO.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including ability to speak in small and large group environments
  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Must be able to read, analyze, interpret, and present common scientific and technical documents, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Self motivated and results oriented. Attention to Detail.  Ability to multitask. Team Player, and flexible.

Requirements

  • High school, technical school graduate or engineering degree. Minimum of a 4-year degree in related field.
  • 5 yrs experience in the HVAC industry with 4 yrs experience in sales.
  • Familiarity with all HVAC MFG’s, HVAC principles, and operation of energy management systems

Building Automation Systems Sales Engineer

Job Summary

General Scope of Work:

The Sales Engineer specializes in identifying, qualifying and closing new Controls Sales, Developing Job/Project business opportunities and maintaining assigned geographic area and account base.   Focus on building long term relationships with the General Contractors, A&E firms, and prime customers.

Responsibilities

Main Duties – Skill Set Requirements:

  • Identify, qualify, and close business opportunities in company coverage area.
  • Develop and maintain Controls Sales contacts.
  • Sell Control systems Projects within the Commercial Industry.
  • Experience in Energy Performance Contracting to support Tier ones.
  • Follow up quality leads and potential clients
  • Follow up on sales/project leads
  • Establish long-term, on-going relationships with clients.
  • Increase presence in Metro Detroit Area.
  • Establish revenue and profit goals as defined in the Controls Sales Business Plan.
  • Prepare and present client proposals
  • Respond to RFQ s and RFP s and work with the Controls Group Estimating team.
  • Utilize job site walks to acquire information for qualified opportunity
  • Communication with Control Group Team regarding schedule, sales activity, estimates and proposals
  • Perform monthly backlog with Controls Group Team to meet project timeline.
  • Set up qualified presentations for Building Automation Systems for potential opportunities.
  • Representative will perform above responsibilities exhibiting a professional demeanor
  • Representative will maintain existing and cultivate new relationships both externally and internally through professional behavior

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong presentation, oral and written communication, organization and time management skills.
  • Previous Building Controls and or HVAC Sales Experience is a plus but not required.
  • Work Ethic of loyalty, integrity, pride, perseverance, accountability, respect and teamwork.
  • Adheres to company policies and procedures
  • Represents Company in a positive and professional manner.
